Apple vs. Samsung Decisions Creep Forward in Netherlands, Australia

SAMSUNG GALAXY Tab 10.1

Courts in the Netherlands and Australia by Apple and Samsung to hear arguments on Monday, the latest in a month-long patent war between the two smartphone manufacturers.

In Australia, Apple temporarily excluded two of the five claims against Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, according itnews Australia. The two patents are concerned with the use of a slider icon, the tablet touch screen and an icon that jumped when zooming unlocked.

In Holland, according to IDG Netherlands, a judge postponed until October 14 a decision on whether Samsung should be allowed to ban Apple products based on Samsung patents declared essential to all 3G devices to the endeavor.

Patent blogger Mueller break down some fascinating details that came from the semi-public hearings in the Netherlands.

Citing 9to5Mac, Mueller noted that a patent claimed by Samsung, one of a 3G chip from Samsung was 2.4 percent of the price of a 3G chip and demanding a licensing fee.

"Given that there are at least several hundred patents declared essential to a standard such as 3G, such as a patent royalty demands seem entirely out of line," writes Mueller. Because the disputed patent is categorized as an essential patents, Samsung is committed to creating a fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (Frandsen) license to set up.

Verizon Samsung has recently publicly participated in the ongoing patent case when it asked the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to Apple's request for an injunction in the matter of refusing. Such an order would otherwise prohibit Samsung to sell four of its Android products, while the patent dispute is before the courts, including Infuse 4G, 4G Galaxy S Droid Charge, and Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The struggle is now extended to almost two dozen countries, by Apple sued Samsung in France and the Korean company is reportedly ready to sue Apple for infringing patents on iPhone Wireless-5, although it is officially released.

So far, Apple has succeeded in Galaxy Tab 10.1 temporarily banned in Germany. Samsung has also agreed to delay the release of the tablet in Australia, but Samsung has recently filed a counter suit. The Netherlands maintains Samsung's extensive patent against Apple last week.

The patent dispute between Apple and Samsung began in April, when Apple sued Samsung in the U.S. to copy the look and feel of the iPhone and the iPhone in line with its flagship Galaxy S units, a suit which was later expanded to 13 more products include bl . a. Galaxy Tab 10.1, Nexus S 4G and Droid Charge.

Motorola Xoom 4G: A Better Business Tablet and also a iPad 2

Motorola Xoom 4G

Motorola will begin the upgrade of the existing owners of Xoom tablet 4G LTE in the next week, but the first pilot program should focus only on business and government customers, says enthusiastically Droid Life website.

According to an e-mail purportedly received from a Droid Life reader, Motorola's "pilots", the first upgrade just to businesses and government customers, before it starts deploying 4G massive Xoom to individual owners.

In late July, Verizon confirmed that Xoom 4G LTE upgrade would kick off sometime in September after several months of delay. Earlier this year, the upgrade to 4G is free, but the process requires

Xoom owners email back from their tablets to a hardware retrofit.Earlier instructions had directed users to email their tablets back to Verizon. But the e-mail posted by Droid Life is rather telling Xoom industry and government owners directly to their tablets for Motorola. But the process seems to be the Xoom same.Registering on Motorola's website to an e-mail from the company is activated when the upgrade is available. Verizon offers its own registration page, which Xoom owners can find it when the 4G upgrade is complete. Xoom owners are advised to back up their files and personal information and either encrypt their data or back to Xoom, in its original factory settings. People who have registered for the upgrade will have a box and shipping materials from Motorola, they can use the tablet to the ship.

Verizon had previously warned them that they would Xoom owners without their tablets for about six days. But the e-mail published by Droid Life is a promising turnaround of Motorola just three days, at least for business and government customers.

Spice MiTab: Price & Specs of Entry level Android Tablet

Spice MiTab: Price & Specs of Entry level Android Tablet

You have heard of the Reliance 3G Tab and Beetel’s Magiq, both budget competitors to the iPad, Xoom and Galaxy Tab. We now have yet another entrant: Spice’s MiTab.Spice Mobile, now known as S Mobility, have launched the MiTab, an entry level Android tablet. Here are the specs we could find so far

Being an Android tablet, it has an HTML Browser with Flash Support (ahem, iPad). It also has the WiFi Hotspot feature by which you can share your internet connection over WiFi with other devices.

Mr. BK Modi, chairman of S Mobility said, ”Mobile Internet is a revolution, a new trend which comes from the customers’ connectivity need to be always on. Tablets play an important part in this revolution. Tablets may very well be the 1st PC for most of the Indians. There has been a growing demand for ‘tabs’ which can do so much ranging from multimedia to social networking to even your official work.”

We find it a little hard to believe that the tablet has 2GB of RAM, as even high end tablets do not have that much, but those are the specs given on Spice’s official site. Apart from that, the specs are impressive. The addition of a GPU should make the User Experience a lot better. It also means one can watch HD Content on the Tablet. Coupled with a capacitive touch screen we are looking forward to seeing how this device will do in the market.

HTC’s Upcoming tablet

HTC’s Upcoming tablet

Taiwanese company has filed a trademark on the name "HTC Scribe, " which is described as a "handheld wireless device, a tablet computer. "HTC has not formally announced the new product, that rumor is a 7.0-inch screen and a version of Google's Android operating system designed specifically for tablets.

The company may announce the product this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, or in February at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Analysts speculate that a HTC tablet a strong alternative to iPad, unable to compete with the PC market at the prices.

Tablet sales are expected to more than double this year, led by IPAD success. Hewlett-Packard, Research in Motion, Motorola, Toshiba and Asus all have either recently started or tablets expected soon. Many of the new aircraft will rotate the tablet-optimized Android 3.0, the possibility of a fork in the Google mobile operating system, which might require different versions of apps for phones and tablets increases.

HTC is in a strong position to successfully Android tablet world's largest producer of Android phones release. The company will release Evo Shift - Sprint 4G latest smartphone - January 9 and is set to a 4G-compatible device for Verizon launch.

Motorola Milestone 2

Motorola Milestone 2

While Motorola might have felt pretty happy actually release a phone again in Dexter, it was clearly not the handset to resume the mark. So step forward in Milestone (Droid to our U.S. users), the latest Android phone - but it may be Moto's largest?

The first thing you notice about the Motorola Milestone build quality - compare it with some Android phones out there and you will feel that it is much better than plastic options from some companies (including himself - it DEXT had an element of low quality about it).

The phone is significantly thinner than before, coming in at only 13.7mm thick, which is impressive when you realize that it packs a full QWERTY keyboard to hit as well.

Along with the sleek design, the phone has a decent weight on it - for us it hits the sweet spot of not being too heavy,Motorola Milestone 2 but weighty enough to add premium aura to the device

The decision to use gold decals are a little suspect though - it harks back to teeth-grindingly frustrating days of D & G-branded Motorola Razr, that does not add anything except too much gold to the device.Motorola Milestone 2 But it feels a little retro '80s ... we assume that's what kids are into these days.

But this phone is meant to be so much more than that - it has been extremely announced over the U.S. as the best Android phone thus far and the fastest, most up-to-date and nimble unit yet from Google crowd.

To this end, the latest version of Android (2.0) and a nice 3.7-inch screen to boot. The display is easy rival of HTC, which is a smart and responsive capacitive response with little slower when navigating through Milestone.

Motorola's new handset is a pretty basic affair, when searching from the front, with the four touch-sensitive buttons, the only idea that it is a phone. They are a little hieroglyphic-like in design, but it's something we see a lot of these days, and we think they work well when the lights touch-sensitive use.

The first thing a lot of people will notice when using the Milestone is the lip at the bottom - and we jiggered if we can figure out what it is. When sliding QWERTY keyboard open, it is quickly apparent that this gets in the way of writing when you hold the phone in two hands, Motorola Milestone 2so what Motorola makes that we do not know - we can only assume that there are some key hardware pinched there.

But we would rather that Motorola had just done Milestone a little bit thicker rather than adding on this extra chunk - it's a big, big downside for the phone and we can imagine it put a lot of people off buying the device.

QWERTY keyboard is a little cramped - think somewhere between the Nokia N900 (inclusive) and Palm Pre (cramped). Others, we asked to test the phone all said the keys were well spaced enough to beat,Motorola Milestone 2 but the lip came in the way of easy handling and therefore write.

The sliding action of the keyboard is pleasing, and once again continues premium feel - there is a nice click when fully extended. We are also happy to see a D-Pad and select key included - while touchscreens might be great for video and Internet, Motorola Milestone 2they can be very fiddly when you try to edit text, and D-Pad is a godsend in this case.

Apple’s New CDMA iPhone 4 comes to Verizon from 10th Feb

We've waited and waited, and now Apple and Verizon have made a million dreams come true: the iPhone is coming to Big Red. After talking up his new LTE network a bit, Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam confirmed a CDMA (non-LTE) version of the iPhone 4 is coming to Verizon Wireless next month.

"Verizon Wireless customers have told us they can't wait to get their hands on iPhone 4, and we think they are going to love it," Cook said. "We have enormous respect for the company Verizon has built and the loyalty they have earned from their customers."

The CDMA iPhone 4 features a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, HD video recording, Apple's A4 chip, a 3-axis gyro and a glass and stainless steel design like no other mobile phone. iPhone 4 also comes with iOS 4, the world's most advanced mobile operating system, which includes multitasking, folders, Game Center, AirPlay and AirPrint wireless printing.

We've read reams of speculation about the Verizon iPhone, and McAdam obviously knows how to work a crowd. He set the stage by noting that, "We've made network quality the hallmark of the Verizon brand" and that Verizon has "the only infrastructure that's future-proof, and we can deliver high-def and 3-D content over the 3-G system robustly." It was an unmistakeable dig at the data and call-drop woes that the iPhone has caused AT&T and a subtle promise that the mobile broadband future that Apple helped usher in will work reliably on Verizon's network.

LG OPTIMUS NEXUS S

NEXUS S

There’s no doubt what LG is trying to emphasize with the announcement of the LG Optimus 2X smartphone. You see that 2X in the name? That’s because it boasts the impressive dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor (1GHz) to run its show. And what a show it is.
You may have seen this phone floating around the rumor mills as the LG Star, but the name has been abandoned for the Optimus 2X moniker instead. This is the first time that we’re seeing a smartphone with that impressive chip under the hood, after all.

So, what kind of power does that processor provide to this Android 2.2 smartphone? Well, not only will it output full 1080p video to your TV via its HDMI-out port, but it will also record full 1080p HD video via its 8MP primary camera. There’s also a 1.3MP camera on the front for your video calls too.

Running through the rest of the specs, you find 8GB memory, microSD expansion, and a 4-inch WVGA display. There’s only a 1500mAh battery in there, though, so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of life you get when you really start to push the limits on this beast of a slim phone.

That's right, it's official. Needless to say, that LG Star we recently got our paws on is very real, though it won't go by that name at retail -- just as LG's own release materials had suggested, this monster has picked up the Optimus 2X name as it morphs from a prototype into brutally fast, overpowered reality. At the phone's heart beats a dual-core Tegra 2 processor running at 1GHz, the first such configuration to be officially announced by any smartphone manufacturer (though we're expecting others any day now). In case you're wondering how such power might be used, well, for starters, you've got both full 1080p TV-out via HDMI and video capture through an 8 megapixel primary camera paired with a 1.3 megapixel cam up front for face-to-face calling.

A 4-inch WVGA display is along for the ride along with 8GB of on-board storage (expandable with up to 32GB of microSD) and a 1,500mAh battery -- no larger than most single-core smartphones these days, so it'll be interesting to see if the final retail units hold up through a day of typical use. Unfortunately, the Optimus 2X is launching out of the gate with Android 2.2, but LG's already committing to releasing Gingerbread updates "in due course." It hits first in LG's home market of Korea next month, followed by Europe and other Asian locales in the coming weeks; we're sure you can hardly wait, so why don't you check out some eye candy from our preview while you pass the time? Follow the break for the press release.
