October 2, 2009 Gandhi Jayanti International Day of Non-Violence Gandhi Jayanti is a National Holiday celebrated in India to mark the occasion of the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the "Father of the Nation". It is celebrated on October 2, every year.

President Pratibha Patil on Thursday, greeted the people on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, which is celebrated tomorrow.

In his message of Gandhinagar, where she currently is visiting Gujarat, President Patil said: "Gandhi Jayanti is an opportunity for us all to reflect on life and work of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi."

A one-day exhibition here to celebrate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Friday also included a presentation of projects for the Commonwealth Games 2010, taking place here, "said Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain Tuesday.

Sain said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to organize Gandhi Jayanti Mela at Pragati Maidan starts October 2.

"The main points of the presentation will be the Commonwealth Games projects, from door to door collection of garbage in the city, mechanical sweeping, bio-metric system of care (in some government offices), waterless urinals, and so on," said Sain.

The annual event has attracted more than 100,000 people in the past, will be open 10:00-8:00

Hindustani classical singer Shubha Mudgal, Kathak dancer Uma Sharma and popular punjabi singer Daler Mehndi will perform in the cultural program of the event.

The mayor said around 55 bodies of Gandhi and 75 public organizations, including various departments MCD will their pavilions at the fair
